Duh, Winning!

In the immortal words of Charlie Sheen, “You make a choice to win, and you win.”

Well, apparently Chris from GA made that choice, because he’s picked up this sketch as the winner in my Time Flies anniversary giveaway…

Thanks again to John DiBiase and all who played along!

And for the record, I don’t advocate living by any of Mr. Sheen’s words. Unless you have tiger blood. Or Adonis DNA.

Involuntary Hoarding

The new year brought with it a new job! While the majority of my professional life has been spent editing the writing put forth by others, my newest challenge is getting paid to come up with my own. That’s right, friends, I’m officially a writer now. It may be hard to imagine based on the oft-times mediocre quality of this blog but don’t laugh, Hallmark Cards knows a thing or two about writers. It’s legit, I assure you.

You can own Avengers art like mine…

Lest ye think I have stumbled into the most glamorous of occupations, I submit the following evidence.

Catalogs dating back to 1998. That I get to sort through. And they’re all out of order. And there are more in the file cabinet drawers that you can’t see in this photo. And I’m told they need to stay within the confines of my cubular space—isn’t that an awesome new term?!—so that I can refer back to them. Which I will probably never do for those older than 2010.

Good times at the card factory.

Works of Art

Unpacking is both a blessing and a curse.
Finding cool things you forgot you had=awesome.
Finding uncool things you forgot you had and now must store=totally not awesome.

The majority of my unpacking thus far has tended toward the ‘curse’ end of the spectrum, so I’ve largely neglected it. There have been a few gems, and it should come as no surprise that the majority of said gems are unearthed in the Star Wars room. Take these beauties—the Return of the Jedi coloring books that I actually colored in as a tot.

Being an only child with a stay-at-home mom, many of my early days included coloring time with my momma. I loved coloring. Still do.

Here are some samples of the fine artwork borne of crayons skillfully wielded by my mother and me. You shouldn’t have much problem figuring out which parts she colored…

I have awesome, talented friends. Sometimes it makes me a little sick, actually (in the jealous, “I’m-not-worthy” kind of way). Today I got my hands on some custom physical proof of one friend’s ridiculous artistic gift.

Remember a while ago I told you about John DiBiase? He’s kind of a rockstar artist; oh, and he also founded/operates a little website called…it’s kind of a big deal. Yeah, well I’ve been friends with John for over a decade now, so I’m going to brag on him again.

There was a package waiting for me when I got home from work today. After awkwardly unwrapping it—my hands don’t function very well when I’m excited—I saw the following gems.

I’m literally in awe. My artistic ability is all but nonexistent, and there’s not much that I love more than Scout Troopers/Speeder Bikes and Ewoks. Are you seeing these?? The depth and texture is amazing. The glimmer in Wicket’s eyes and squishy little Lumat cheeks… Gah! My rinky-dink iPhone photos barely even do them justice. Can’t wait to get these babies displayed in my Star Wars room (if the stupid new house is ever finished)!

Go check out John’s Etsy store, so you can own a bit of awesomeness too.
