Good in Theory
You like the dichotomy of salty and sweet, right? A big slice of chocolate cake with cheese puffs or potato chips on the side…a hearty bowl of chili with a glass of cold chocolate milk…ding dang!
Brownies with a pretzel crust=divine. Except when it’s not.
Now I’m not saying the concept is inherently flawed, but my execution was less than stellar.
I followed the recipe on Love From The Oven and had high expectations. After all, the recipe is simple enough; you make brownies according to the box and pour it over a pretzel crust. To make said crust, take 3 cups of crushed pretzels, 1 cup of melted butter and 5 tablespoons of sugar, mix it all together and press into your (greased) baking pan.
They looked great, smelled great, tasted kinda meh. The pretzels seemed to lose some of their salty goodness and got a bit soggier than I would’ve preferred, so I’ll cut back a little on the butter and sugar next time. I also used a fairly dense dark chocolate brownie mix, which might better be replaced with something sweeter and more gooey.
